For the somewhere project, I chose to place myself in a scene from the God Father. In my opinion its one of the coolest movies ever made. I also come from Italian roots so it means a lot to me culturally. I don't know a lot about my family history, but my mom tells me that my great grandfather had dated an Italian mafia princess. So when I watched the movie I thought that it was cool because it could've been how my life turned out if I was born at a different time. I also think the movie has amazing cinematography. Overall I think its a really good movie and I would recommend it to anyone who likes action and suspenseful movies.
For my Calligraphy piece I choose to depict the earth with my letter. I choose the earth because my dream is to one day travel it and see many different countries and cultures. I used different fonts and characters to depict space and the earth. Some tools I used were the type and shape tools. I tried to use the background as the default text with a very low space in-between them and a high stroke count. I used different characters like asterisk and periods to make the moon and stars.
My piece is a modern recreation of the famous Rossie the Riveter poster, made by J. Howard Miller. My idea with this piece was to use its original meaning, boasting female moral during World Wat II and depict it in a more modern way. I took away the meaning of boasting female workers and instead used it as a way to convey the modern day problems women face. With Rossie being such a symbolic figure in feminism I decided to recreate her with the problem of reproductive rights women face today. The slogan "my body, my choice" is meant to serve as a reminder to all government officials that human should have unsolicited control over their own bodies. Especially in todays climate with things like safe abortion and Planned Parenthood are being targeted, I think reproductive and general women's health rights are at risk.
