Propaganda Self Portait

My piece is a modern recreation of the famous Rossie the Riveter poster, made by J. Howard Miller. My idea with this piece was to use its original meaning, boasting female moral during World Wat II and depict it in a more modern way. I took away the meaning of boasting female workers and instead used it as a way to convey the modern day problems women face. With Rossie being such a symbolic figure in feminism I decided to recreate her with the problem of reproductive rights women face today. The slogan "my body, my choice" is meant to serve as a reminder to all government officials that human should have unsolicited control over their own bodies. Especially in todays climate with things like safe abortion and Planned Parenthood are being targeted, I think reproductive and general women's health rights are at risk.

  1. i really like your take and vision on this topic. The art feels very modern and new, but still holding on to the classic feminist message the was imbued with the original Rosie the Riveter. The splashes of color in the background add to the great modern twist and aesthetic you gave to the updated vision and pose.

  2. This is a really cool piece. The reference is a great connection for women's rights and equality. It is a great modern touch on an old work of art that is still relevant. The color combination is super cool and interesting, super eye catching. The type face chosen matches very well.
